Basic
This is the most simple authentication scheme.
In this mode the password is not protected when it is
sent from the browser to the proxy. With network analysis
software it is easy to decode.
Digest
Select this option to make sure that the password is always protected while in
transit.
Basic
Use this setting for compatibility with clients not supporting the Digest
authentication scheme. Clients which can handle both schemes will automatically
prefer Digest.
Per user time- and transferlimits
With this switch the monitoring of the limits will be activated.
The respective limits of a user are assigned in SX-GATE's user
administration.
Session timeout
To account the time a user spent browsing via the proxy the download times are
summed up. However these times will only be significant with downloads of some
extent. The download time of standard web site content is often in the range of a few
milliseconds. The value which can be specified here determines the maximum period
of time between two subsequent requests of a user to account them as one contiguous
session. This value will always be added to the download time. The total of these values
is the time spent. Overlapping time ranges will of course be accounted only once.
To account the download times only please enter the value "0".
Some examples will explain the calculation. Let us assume the session timeout was set
to 20 seconds. A user sends a request at 0 seconds and 30 seconds. The download
of the requests takes 1 second each. As the gap between both requests is longer than
the session timeout they will be accounted as two independent sessions. So for each
request 21 seconds are accounted which gives us a total of 42 seconds. If in contrast
the user sends requests at 0 seconds and 10 seconds, they would belong to the same
