Interface Cable
This is the cable that connects several devices so
that they can be compatible in use.
Some examples of interface cables are the parallel
cable for directly connecting the printer to the
computer and the Ethernet cable for connecting a
printer to the network.
IP Address
It is the network address used by the TCP/IP
protocol. An IP address is expressed by four sets of
decimal values separated by periods.
Java
It is a programming language developed by Sun
Microsystems in the United States for developing
software for running home pages on the internet.
Applications created by using Java are called applets.
Job
A group of print data. The stopping and output of
printing are conducted on a job basis.
LED
This is the acronym for Light Emitted Diode.
Legal
This is paper measuring 14 x 8.5" (about 356 x 216
mm) in size. This type of paper size is commonly
used in legal documents in the United States.
Letter
This is paper measuring 11 x 8.5" (about 279 x 216
mm) in size. This type of paper isze is commonly
used in correspondences in the United States.
Local Printer
In this manual, a local printer refers to a printer
connected directly to a computer via a parallel cable.
Login
This refers to the state whereby a user is able to
access resources (hard disks, printers on a network)
of a computer system. You "logout" to exit from a
login session.
NetWare
®
This is a network OS developed by Novell, Inc.
NetWare File Server
This is the dedicated server required for
constructing a network with NetWare. Server
software is run on this server while client software
is run on the client computer.
Network Path
This points to the target computer or file on a
network. It is used to specify a server name and so
forth.
Network Printer
In this manual, a printer that is connected to the
network via the Ethernet cable is called a "network
printer".
NV Memory
This is a non-volatie memory that allows the settings
of the printer to be maintained even when power is
switched off.
