Delayed Release
Controls the secondary (slow) release
of the lookahead limiter. When Delayed
Release is engaged (using the Delayed
Release checkbox), the limiter will release
the first 3dB of gain reduction at the (faster)
Release setting, and the remainder of the
Release at the Delayed Release timing. This
will drastically reduce intermodulation
distortion and allow more limiting depth
without incurring a distortion penalty. The
control ranges from 100.0 milliseconds to
1 second.
Clip Style
These clippers are provided mainly for applications that do not in‑
volve the HD perceptual codec. If this feature is in use and the outputs
are feeding an audio codec, great care is required in adjusting the depth
of clipping, the clipping style, and the audio signal density, to mitigate
unavoidable and undesirable artifacts! There are three choices in the HD
Clipper Style list box:
Off – Bypasses the clipper altogether. Recommended if HD output is
being used with a codec. Did we say that we recommend this setting
be used if the HD output is being used with a codec?
Round – The Round style transfer function allows progressively higher
ratios spread over a 3dB transition region. This clipper style adds a “round‑
ness” to the audio without sounding overly harsh because the higher order
harmonics, especially those above the 7th, are reduced.
Deep – The Deep style transfer function allows an even softer soft clip
function than Round, and its transfer function is spread over a 3.75dB tran‑
sition region. This clipper sounds warmer than Round because it generates
harmonics only up to the 5th.
Phase Reverse
This control allows the phase of the HD digital output to be reversed by
180 degrees.
Left Right Reverse
When checked the left and right channels of the digital output are swapped
(left becomes right, right becomes left). This may be useful during trouble‑
shooting equipment that is external to the AM‑10HD.
DeEmphasis
When the DeEmphasis checkbox is selected it applies complementary de‑
emphasis according to any pre‑emphasis setting that has been made in the AM
Limiter screen’s “Emphasis” list box.
