Inspecting the Varian roughing pump oil level
This procedure is not required for an Edwards oil-free roughing pump.
Requirement:
You must inspect the oil level while the roughing pump is
running.
The roughing pump oil level appears in the roughing pump’s oil level sight
glass. Inspect the oil level at weekly intervals; with the pump running, the oil
level is typically at approximately 30% to 60% of the maximum oil level. This
corresponds to approximately the maximum oil level when the pump is not
operating. If the oil level is below these values, add oil to the pump (see
“Adding oil to the Varian roughing pump” on page 4-18 ).

To ensure correct operation of the Varian™ roughing pump,
do not operate the pump with the oil level at less than 30% of the MAX
level.
