After sharpening the cutting tools 3 to 4 times, you
must check the height of the depth limiter and, if nec-
essary, use a flat file to make this deeper and then
round off the front corner.
MAINTAINING THE CHAIN (CONTINUED)
Chain tension
Check the chain tension on a regular basis and
re-adjust if necessary so that the chain is tight to the
bar but still loose enough that it can be pulled around
by hand.
Running a new saw chain in
A new saw chain and guide rail must be re-adjusted
after less than 5 cuts. This is normal during the run-
in time and the time between future re-adjustments
will get longer.
m
CAUTION
Never remove more than 3 links from a chain loop.
Otherwise, the teeth may be damaged.
Oiling the saw chain
Always ensure that automatic saw chain lubrication
is working properly. Ensure that the oil tank is always
filled.
During sawing work, the guide rail and the saw chain
must always be oiled sufficiently in order to reduce
friction on the guide rail.
The guide rail and the saw chain must never be used
if the lubrication system is not working. If you use the
chainsaw dry or with too little oil, the cutting perfor
-
mance reduces, the service life of the guide rail is
shortened, the saw chain becomes blunt quicker and
the guide rail wears a great deal due to overheating.
You can see that there is too little oil if smoke forms
or the guide rail discolours. Always check the oil mist
on a light surface, by pointing the chainsaw towards
this surface at full speed.
m
NOTICE
Store the saw in a dry location, far away from poten
-
tial sources of ignition, such as furnaces, gas-pow-
ered hot water boilers or dryers, etc.
m
CAUTION
Never attach a new chain to a worn bar.
Oil openings
Oil openings on the bar must be cleaned to ensure
that the bar and chain are oiled properly during op
-
eration.
m
NOTICE
The condition of the oil openings can be checked
easily. If the oil openings are clean, the chain sprays
oil automatically a few seconds after starting the saw.
Your saw is equipped with an automatic oil system.
Automatic chain lubrication
The chainsaw is equipped with an automatic oil sys
-
tem with gear drive. It supplies the rail and the chain
automatically with the correct oil quantity. As soon as
the motor is accelerated, the oil also flows faster onto
the bar plate.
Chain lubrication is optimised in the factory. If re-ad
-
justments are required, take the saw to the nearest
authorised customer service location.
An adjustment screw for chain lubrication (fig. 17 /
item J) is located on the underside of the chainsaw.
If it is turned anticlockwise, chain lubrication is re-
duced and if it is turned clockwise, chain lubrication
is increased. In order to check chain lubrication, hold
the chainsaw with the chain over a piece of paper
and allow to run for a few seconds at full speed. You
can use the paper to appraise the set oil quantity.
MAINTAINING THE CHAIN
Sharpening the chain
Special tools are required to sharpen the chain; these
ensure that the cutting tools are sharpened at the
correct angle and to the correct depth. We recom
-
mend that inexperienced chainsaw users have the
saw chain sharpened by a specialist at the nearest
customer service location. If you are confident with
sharpening your own saw chain, procure the special
tools from professional customer service.
Sharpening the chain
Wear safety gloves when sharpening the chain. All
cutting links must have the same width and length af-
ter sharpening.
m
NOTICE
A sharp chain generates well-shaped chips. If the
chain starts to generate sawdust, it must be sharp-
ened.
