RETRANSMISSION
ECM is a signaling system that greatly reduces the chance of data being lost
because of a bad telephone line. ECM is useful if you frequently
communicate over poor telephone lines. With ECM switched on, the
communication cost will increase if the line is bad, but the data will be sent
much more reliably.
If ECM is switched off, Page Retransmission will be used. The whole page
will be resent (unless you used Immediate Transmission, in which case
damaged data cannot be resent at all). ECM is more efficient, because it only
resends the damaged parts of the data, the maximum possible number of
retransmission attempts is much higher, and it also works with Immediate
Transmission. If you prefer reliable communication keep ECM on. You can
switch ECM on by following the procedure below.
