eliminate redundant data; or when the vessel is in a high-reverb environment
where echoes of the previous ping are contaminating the current ping.
The “MaxRate” function on the “Main” menu allows the operator to limit the
number of Pings Per Second (PPS), making it lower than the standard ping rate
for that Range setting. The ping range available is from 0.2 to 15 PPS. See
for available range options and their associated standard ping rates.
5.4.3 Change the Transmit Power (TxPower)
The “TxPower” setting allows the operator to increase or decrease the amount of
power (acoustic energy) transmitted into the water. There are multiple
increments, from “Off” to “Full”, each accounting for an increase of approximately
3dB.
“Full” yields a source level of approximately 225dB 1
Pa @ 1m.
5.4.4 Change the Pulse Width (TxPulse)
For a given power setting, a narrower Pulse Width will provide a higher resolution
at a shorter range. A wider Pulse Width will provide maximum range with lower
resolution image results.
The “TxPulse” setting allows the operator to change the Pulse Width of the
transmitted signal. For a standard system, Pulse Widths available are from
0.2ms to 10ms in increments of approximately 0.1ms.
5.4.5 Change the Receiver Gain (RxGain)
The “RxGain” setting allows the operator to select the amount of Receiver Gain
applied to the returned sonar signal.
The settings available for “RxGain” depend
on the Gain Mode (see
section 5.4.6 Change the Gain Mode (Gain Mode)
Fixed:
If Gain Mode is “Fixed,” the RxGain is selected by the operator
as a specific amount.
TVG:
When the Gain Mode is “TVG,” the RxGain has a range of 1 to 45
in 1dB steps. The selected gain amount will be applied
in addition to
the
calculated gain (see
section 5.4.6 Change the Gain Mode (Gain Mode)
These values will change automatically when AutoGain is enabled.
5.4.6 Change the Gain Mode (Gain Mode)
The Gain Mode selection provides the ability to dictate the type of gain that will
be applied to the received signal. When switching between Gain Modes, the last
gain value selected in each category will be restored upon selection.
