5.7.2.1 Gate Control Switch
There are three gate modes:
Absolute
Adaptive
No Gates (gate functionality is turned off)
If you switch gate mode, the data stored last time the Apply button was clicked for that
mode will automatically be sent to the center.
5.7.2.2 Absolute Gate Parameters
When Absolute gating is selected, either gate range or depth is entered in this section.
Select the Enable Depth/Range Gate check box for the type of gate desired.
Depth:
Applies the minimum and maximum depth values as entered in the
Min Depth and Max Depth fields. Only bottom returns within these depth limits
will be used in the bottom detection process. Use of a motion sensor is
required to rotate the depth gates with the rolling motion of the vessel to
ensure soundings are not clipped as the seabed rotates with respect to the
sonar (see
section 4.2.7 Motion
).
Range:
Applies the minimum and maximum range values as entered in the
Min Range and Max Range fields. Only bottom returns within these range
limits will be used in the bottom detection process.
Depth Gate Tilt
11
:
Applies a tilt value to the depth gates as manually specified
on the slider control in the range between -30° and 30° in increments of 1°.
For examples on how to use this setting, see
section 6.2.8.2 Depth Gate Tilt
Click the Apply button to finalize changes.
NOTE
The simultaneous use of both range and depth filters is not recommended.
5.7.2.3 Adaptive Gate Parameters
When Adaptive gating is selected, the bottom is tracked based on window size and
search criteria from beam to beam within a ping.
Depth:
Applies the minimum and maximum nadir depth values as entered in
the Min Depth and Max Depth fields to refine the initial search for the
strongest bottom return from the nadir beam. As the filter limits approach the
nadir search limits, the NS gates are automatically updated to center the nadir
search on the detected seafloor. The NS gates can be moved manually with
the mouse/trackball by right-clicking and selecting Move Nadir Gate.
