Managing Multiplexers

August 1994
To change the Device class to which an assignment applies, edit field three. For example, to assign
alarm 63.00 (Active BER) differently for a switch than a multiplexer, change the line from this

n
a
alink2
to this
63
00
s
n
a
alink1
and create this new link

alink2
Note that the original line assigned the alarm to alink2 for both classes of device. The new lines
assign the alarm to alink1 for switches and alink2 for multiplexers. The significance of this is that
alink1 may have different filtering attributes than alink2.
Activating Changes to the EToAMapping File
Any changes you make to the EToAMapping File are not automatically used by the system. To
activate the changes, the 6800 Series NMS must be stopped and then started again. For information
on stopping and starting the NMS, see the COMSPHERE 6800 Series Network Management
System User’s/System Administrator’s Guide.
Automapping of Events
Any ACCULINK event that does not contain an alert group assignment in the EToAMapping file
is automatically assigned to a predefined alert group by the 6800 Series NMS. Alarms and alarm
clears are mapped to the alert group alarm2. Pure events are mapped to the alert group event2.
Device Diagnostics and Fault Isolation
The 6800 Series NMS allows you to test, manipulate, and display parameters for the following
items.
Channels
Physical Links
Multiplexer Components
Channel Groups
The device diagnostic and fault isolation commands are discussed in the following sections.
