Configuring the NMS
Before you can configure your multiplexer network, all hardware must be installed and connected,
the NMS must be loaded, and the NMS must be started up. Detailed information on configuring a
multiplexer network is provided in Chapter 2 of this manual.
Using a configuration worksheet provided with the user’s manual that came with your
ACCULINK multiplexer and a network diagram, perform the steps that apply to your
configuration to get the NMS up and running and managing your network.

Configuring a New Network with a New NMS
To configure a new 6800 Series NMS with a new multiplexer network, follow the procedures
below.
Preparing a New Network
To prepare a new multiplexer network, perform the following steps.
1. Obtain the following worksheets from the AT&T Paradyne System Engineer for each
Series 700 node:

Network Configuration Worksheet
•
Node Configuration Worksheet
2. Make sure each node has a unique node number (1 to 249).
3. Make sure each node has a common Level I password.
4. Configure and activate all T1 links.
5. Configure the network clock.
6. Make sure the SDL network is operational.
7. Configure the NAPs that are to be used for the command language interface, event port
interface, and cut-through.
After completing these steps, you are ready to set up the 6800 Series NMS.
