Using the Voice Adapter
This chapter describes how to configure and make regular phone calls through the
BayStack 820 ISDN Router using the voice adapter.
Introducing the Voice Adapter
The BayStack 820 ISDN Router supports two Plain Old Telephone Service
(POTS) ports. These ports on the front panel of the router are labeled “A” and
“B.” These ports are available for regular phone or fax services when either of the
two ISDN channels is not in use.
The router also supports additional services available from an ISDN service
provider, such as call hold, call waiting, call conferencing, and call transfer.
ISDN Switch Type Considerations
ISDN switch types differ in their ability to support voice phone calls. The router
automatically defaults to the most common configurations for ISDN voice call
support depending upon the router’s ISDN interface type (U or S/T) and the
configured or detected switch type. You must adjust the ISDN switch type
configuration only if you require something other than the default settings.
Note: The ability to use some of the features described in this chapter depends
upon the additional services available through your ISDN service subscription.
Such features include call hold, call waiting, call conferencing, and call
transfer, caller ID services (reception, deliver, and witholding), subaddresses.
Check with your ISDN service provider to determine if your subscription
includes these call features.
