Cautions
Always remove a SIMM from its shipping material care-
fully. Static discharge can damage SIMM components.
Take the following precautions when handling SIMMs:
■
Avoid carpets in cool, dry areas.
■
Do not remove the SIMM from its anti-static packaging
until you are ready to install it.
■
Before handling a SIMM, discharge any static electricity
by touching a grounded metal object, such as the metal
frame inside the system unit.
■
Always hold a SIMM by its edges. Avoid touching the
components on the SIMM.
SIMM Installation
Use the following procedures to install SIMMs in your
system.
Checking the Memory in Your System
Use the following steps to locate SIMM sockets and to
check the memory configuration in your system.

Remove the system unit cover (see Chapter 4).

WARNING: Be sure that the system
unit power is turned off and the system is unplugged
before you begin the installation procedure.
