6-4 Setting System Board Jumpers
!
CAUTION
The jumper is set correctly at the factory for your
configuration. Only change the appropriate jumper
setting if you forgot your password or you are
recovering the BIOS. Otherwise, keep the jumper at
its factory settings.
Normal Mode
This mode is for normal computer booting and operation.
To enable this mode, connect pins 1 and 2 on the
configuration jumper (J1A1). The BIOS uses the current
bus/processor frequency ratio, configuration information,
and passwords. (Access to the Setup utility can be restricted
using an Administrative or User password. See “Clearing
Your Password” for more information.)
Configure Mode
This mode is for configuring special BIOS settings,
including processor speed and special maintenance options.
Use this mode to upgrade or recover the BIOS or clear a
password. To enable this mode, connect pins 2 and 3 on the
configuration jumper (J1A1).
After setting the jumper for configure mode, turn on the
computer. The Setup utility automatically executes after the
POST runs. No password is required, and this mode
overrides any passwords that are set. The Maintenance
menu appears for setting parameters. This menu provides
options for setting the processor speed and clearing
passwords. All other Setup utility screens are available.
