4 and 8 Bay Charging/Communication Cradles
When a bay is empty, the corresponding bay LEDs should be off. When you insert a HC700-G into a
bay, its "CHARGE" LED will turn on slow blinking amber (every 1.5 second) indicating that the
HC700-G is properly docked and after a while the LED will start indicating the battery charge status.
Cradle Operating System
The flash memory of the cradle comprises of two independent operating systems (also called images):
Primary image: operating system that normally runs the cradle. This image is initially installed at the
factory or depot. The image can be upgraded in the field by connecting the cradle to a PC or network
server.
Secondary image: operating system that serve as a back-up for the Primary image. This image is ini-
tially installed at the factory.
The cradle Secondary image backs-up the Primary image in case of damaged to the Primary image.
When powered, the cradle verifies the validity of the Primary image. If the Primary image is valid, the
cradle boots from the Primary image, otherwise from the Secondary image.
If the Secondary image is running, the user is notified by the following LED indication: every 30 sec-
onds all green COMM LEDs and all amber Charging LEDs light for 10 seconds and then return to
their pervious state.
When the Secondary image is active, the user should contact service for downloading new image to the
cradle.
Each software image has a unique valid tag, programmed during image programming. The tag con-
tains start & end signature, image’s checksum and image length.
Cradle Basic Connections
The cradle provides the following interface connections (see Figure 52):
1.
LAN Port: Ethernet 10/100 Base T Interface. Use CAT6 Ethernet cable with RJ45 connectors.
2.
Serial Port: V.92 Dial-up Modem Port. Use cable with RS232, DB9 female connector to connect the
cradle to the modem. Use phone line cable with RJ11 jacks to connect the modem to a phone line.
3.
Power inlet: 100-240 VAC, 50/60 Hz, 12-13VDC +/- 5%, 0 to 15A
