Optoisolator Circuits
The MS-850 scanner’s optoisolator circuits can transfer pulses between the scanner
and peripherals with no direct connection with the scanner’s internal circuitry. How-
ever, not every optoisolator configuration provides complete isolation. The following
diagrams show both fully optoisolated and non-optoisolated circuits. They are only
examples and do not represent all the possible wiring configurations.
Outputs
Output circuits can be configured in any of the three following ways:
Fully Optoisolated
This circuit, which allows you
to apply 1 to 28 VDC to the cir-
cuit, is fully optoisolated and
the recommended configura-
tion.
CAUTION
: The maximum cur-
rent that can pass through the
optoisolator is 100 mA.
Not Optoisolated
In this second diagram, you
use the scanner’s power to
complete the circuit.
CAUTION
: The maximum cur-
rent that can pass through the
optoisolator is 100 mA.
In this third diagram, power is
applied externally, but the sig-
nal is grounded inside the MS-
850. This setup involves some
risk to the optoisolator if
excessive voltages are applied.
