SYMPTOM POSSIBLE CAUSES PROCEDURE
Engine does not start Irregular or weak ignition Remove the spark plug and af-
ter connecting it to the ignition
with the specific cap (placing
one end of it in contact with
any metal part away form its
housing of the cylinder head)
check that when starting the
engine without load, ignites a
spark between the electrodes.
In the opposite case, repeat
the operation with a new spark
plug before proceeding to ot-
her operations of the ignition
system controls
Air filter stuck or dirty Replace the air filter element
Exhaust noise decreases: en-
gine tends to stop with throttle
fully opened
Spark plug damaged Replace the spark plug
The engine does not run smoo-
thly / Irregular engine exhaust
Irregular engine performance Clean and replace the spark
plug
Check the wires that feed pow-
er and their connections to the
main control
The engine detonates and
makes backfiring noises while
accelerating or when running
up hill
Mixture too rich Check the air filter element and
replace it if necessary
High fuel consumption Air filter stuck or dirty Replace the filter element
