Installing the External Fiber Optic Extension Cable
The exterior fiber optic extension cable connects between the tank wall penetrator and the LumaSMART
controller. External fiber optic cables are available in a single or bundled (4) configuration.
Route the extension cable through a standard electrical conduit. The extension cable can be run in the same
conduit as electrical or signal wires without affecting temperature sensor operation.
Caution:
•
For maximum cable life, do not expose any part of the cable to direct sunlight. This can cause
the cable to prematurely age.
•
Do not pull the fiber optic cable through the conduit by using the connector.
•
When pulling the fiber optic cable through junction boxes, do not bend the cable to less than a
24.5mm (1.0 in) radius. Oversized junction boxes are preferred.
•
When pulling the fiber optic cable through the conduit, use the protective red Viton caps to
cover the cable ends.
•
Clean the connector ends prior to final connection, to remove debris that may have collected
during installation. Debris can block the passage of light down the fiber. Use spectrograde
methanol or isopropyl alcohol and a cotton swab to remove the debris.
