Procedure
Step 1. Make preparations for this task.
a. Remove all drives and drive fillers from the drive bays. See “Remove a hot-swap drive” on
page 72 .
b. Remove the top cover. See “Remove the top cover” on page 132 .
c. Disconnect the cables from the system board or the RAID adapter. See “Backplane and
backplate cable routing” on page 41 .
Step 2. Remove the backplate.
a. Open the retaining clips by rotating them up.
b. Rotate the backplate down towards the center of the server.
c. Lift the backplate out of the server.

any packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to you.
Install the 3.5-inch backplate
