Procedure
Step 1. Remove the top cover. See “Remove the top cover” on page 132 .
Step 2. Locate the CMOS battery on the system board. See “System-board connectors” on page 19 .
Step 3. Remove the CMOS battery.

Attention:
Do not use excessive force to tilt or push the battery, it might damage the socket.
a. Press the battery clip in the direction as shown.
b. Carefully tilt and lift CMOS battery out of the socket.
After you finish
1. Install a replacement of CMOS battery. See “Install the CMOS battery (CR2032)” on page 67 .
2. If you are instructed to return the component or optional device, follow all packaging instructions, and
use any packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to you.

About this task
• When replacing the CMOS battery, you must replace it with another CMOS battery of the same type from
the same manufacturer.
• After replacing the CMOS battery, make sure to reconfigure the server and reset system date and time.
