IAS Tape Direction can be configured in three ways.
•
When IAS INCREASE TAPE DIRECTION is configured for DOWN, the IAS tape moves
down for increasing IAS as shown in Figure 5-9A, C, or D.
•
When IAS INCREASE TAPE DIRECTION is configured for UP, the IAS tape moves up for
increasing IAS as shown in Figure 5-9B.
•
When IAS INCREASE TAPE DIRECTION is configured as a menu item and the menu item
IAS Tape Direction is DOWN, the IAS tape moves down for increasing IAS as shown in Figure
5-9A, C, or D.
•
When IAS INCREASE TAPE DIRECTION is configured for menu item and the menu item
IAS Tape Direction is UP, the IAS tape moves up for increasing IAS as shown in Figure 5-9B.
NOTE
IAS PART 27/29 is a specification format used for rotor wing aircraft.
PART 27/29 is configured OFF for fixed wing aircraft.
When IAS PART 27/29 is configured for OFF, the IAS tape contains a red V
MO
bar at the right side of the
tape from V
MO
point to the high speed end of the tape. The V
MO
bar is as wide as the length of the short IAS
tape tic marks. The V
MO
bar appears behind the IAS tape tick marks as shown in Figure 5-9B or C.
When IAS PART 27/29 is configured for ON, the IAS tape maintains a series of V
NE
bars at the right side
of the tape as shown in Figure 5-9D. A red V
NE
bar is drawn from the V
NE
Power ON point to the high-
speed end of the tape. A yellow V
NE
bar is drawn from V
NO
point to V
NE
Power ON point. A green V
NE
bar is drawn from V
NO
point to the low end of the tape. The V
NE
bars are as wide as the length of the short
IAS tape tic marks. The V
NE
bars appear behind the IAS tape tick marks.
When IAS PART 27/29 is configured for ON, a red and white striped power off line is drawn across the
tape at V
NE
Power Off point, when V
NE
Power Off is less than V
NE
Power On as shown in Figure 5-9D).
The striped line appears under the IAS digits and over the IAS tape tic marks and V
NE
bars.
5.2.4.1.7 IAS Digital Readout Format
The IAS digital readout consist of three large size, right justified digits capable of displaying current IAS
from 0 to 450 knots (but TSO performance only guaranteed from 50 to 450 knots) with a resolution of
one knot (refer to Figure 5-9). Leading zeroes in the IAS digital readout is blanked.
A black IAS box with a white border is drawn behind the IAS digital readout with the readout centered
vertically in the box. The IAS box is positioned horizontally against the left edge of the display area with
its vertical center aligned to the center of the attitude display area.
The ALT/IAS DIGITAL READOUT NUMBERS COLOR is configured for either white or green.
When IAS PART 27/29 is configured for OFF, IAS digital readout characters are red when the IAS is
greater than V
MO
.
When IAS PART 27/29 is configured for ON and the IAS is greater than or equal to V
NE
Power On, the
IAS digital readout characters are red. When IAS PART 27/29 is configured for ON and the IAS is
greater than or equal to V
NO
but less than V
NE
Power On, the IAS digital readout characters are yellow.
When IAS DISPLAY ROLLING DIGITS is configured for ON, the digits of the IAS digital readout roll
inside a modified IAS box in the same fashion as the digits on a mechanical odometer. The rolling IAS
digits move in the same direction as the IAS tape, according to the configuration for IAS tape direction.
To accommodate rolling IAS digits, the IAS box is expanded vertically above and below the least
significant digit to allow two complete vertically consecutive rolling digits to show in the box (refer to
Figure 5-9C). The rolling axis of IAS digits is centered vertically in the modified IAS box. The IAS box
and IAS digital readout is drawn “on top” of the IAS tape. IAS tape movement will not interfere with the
digital readout display area.
