5.2.4.1.4 Altitude Display Invalidity
An invalid altitude display omits the tape tic marks, tape scale digits, the digital readout digits, the baro
correction digits, and the optional chevrons
When AIR DATA INVALIDITY TYPE is configured for BOX W/DESCRIPTOR and an invalid altitude
display is shown, an “ALT” in large size characters with a border drawn in the tape area above the digital
readout. Refer to Figure 5-8A.
When AIR DATA INVALIDITY TYPE is configured for X and an invalid altitude display is shown, an
“X” is drawn over the tape area (including the digital readout area) having AIR DATA FAILURE
COLOR based on unit configuration. Refer to Figure 5-8B.
If METRIC ALTITUDE READOUT is configured ON, the metric altitude readout window is removed
from the Altitude tape

5.2.4.1.5 Vertical Speed Digital Readout Format
The Vertical Speed Digital Readout is shown at the top right of the indicator display, below the baro
readout window. An active Menu Mode will not obscure the roll scale tic marks, baro or vertical speed
digital readout. The vertical speed digital readout is configured in the detachable configuration module.
The vertical speed window color is black with a white border. The digit and arrow color is based on unit
configuration (ALT/IAS Digital Readout Numbers Color). The vertical speed digital readout consists of
two to four medium size digits with leading zeroes blanked.
For positive (climb) vertical speeds 60 fpm and above, the digital readout is preceded by an upward
pointing caret as shown in Figure 5-7D. For negative (descent) vertical speeds -60 fpm and below, the
digital readout is preceded by a downward pointing caret.
Vertical speed is measured in feet per minute. The readout range is from 0 to
±
9,900 feet per minute
shown as a rounded multiple of 20 feet per minute for vertical speeds from
±
60 fpm through
±
980 fpm
and as a rounded multiple of 100 feet per minute for vertical speeds from
±
1,000 fpm through
±
9,900
fpm. For vertical speeds between -60 fpm and +60 fpm, 00 is shown.
