The heading tape tic marks are labeled at every 30 degrees of heading, starting at 0 degrees, with the two
left-most digits of the corresponding three-digit heading (including leading zeroes). These heading tape
numbers are white. At cardinal headings, the letters N, E, S, or W replace the respective heading scale
numbers.
The heading tape markings move left or right to keep the current heading under the index line.
Figure 5-17: Heading Invalidity with X
The heading tape displays a span of 65 degrees between the inner edges of the air data tapes. The heading
tape will not extend into the altitude or airspeed tapes.
The selected course arrow color has the COURSE ARROW COLOR and COURSE ARROW
BACKGROUND based on unit configuration.
Figure 5-18: Heading Invalidity with Box
An invalid heading omits the heading tape tic marks, heading tape numbers, selected course arrow,
"STBY" designator, and reference triangle. When HEADING INVALIDITY TYPE is configured for X
and an invalid heading display is shown, an “X” is drawn over the tape area as shown in Figure 5-17.
When HEADING INVALIDITY TYPE is configured for BOX W/DESCRIPTOR and an invalid heading
display is shown, a “HDG” in large size characters with a border are drawn in the center of the heading
tape area as shown in Figure 5-18. The Heading Invalidity (“X” or “HDG”) has the AIR DATA
FAILURE COLOR be based on unit configuration.
