5.2.4.1.2 Altitude Digital Readout Format
The altitude digital readout box(s) and digital readout(s) is drawn “on top” of the altitude tape and attitude
display area. Altitude tape movement will not interfere with the altitude digital readout display area.
Attitude movement will not interfere with the altitude digital readout display area except when the
attitude roll angles are near 90
°
. When the roll pointer requires the display area occupied by the box(s),
the box(s) and digital readout(s) is removed to avoid interference with the roll pointer.
The ALTITUDE DIGITAL READOUT consist of up to five large size, right justified digits and be
capable of displaying altitudes from –1,000 to +55,000 feet with a resolution of 10 feet when ALTITUDE
DISPLAY ROLLING DIGITS is configured for OFF. Negative numbers are shown with a right justified
minus sign (“-”). The minus sign appears when the altitude is less than 0 feet. Leading zeroes in the
altitude digital readout is used to provide a minimum of three digits.
For positive altitudes less than 10,000 feet, a hashed box is shown as a “place holder” in the ten thousands
place of the altitude digital readout.
When ALTITUDE DISPLAY ROLLING DIGITS is configured for OFF and the climb/descent rate is
greater than 3,250 feet/minute, the tens and ones digits of the altitude digital readout is replaced with
dashes to enhance readability. The digits are returned to the digital readout when the climb/descent rate
goes below 2,950 feet/minute. The box background is black.
