Recover Files with DiskPrep
In the event you have difficulty recovering the jump start kit’s file using DOS. The DiskPrep utility
can be used to configure the Compact Flash with BIOSLoader to launch the NK.bin CE 6.0 OS runtime
image and Eboot.bin Ethernet bootloader.
Other than not having a visible option menu, you are able to work through all of the exercise in this
guide using the Compact Flash configured with BIOSLoader using DiskPrep from this section.
DiskPrep is a Windows CE power toy available for download from the following URL:
http://code.msdn.microsoft.com/DiskPrep
The DiskPrep utility and the necessary files to configure the Compact Flash are provided on the jump
start CD that comes with the Vortex86DX-MSJK kit, in the following directory:
\DiskPrep
An
USB-to-CompactFlash adapter
is needed to work through the following steps to format and
configure the Compact Flash with BIOSLoader:
•
Create a temporary folder on the development workstation, “
C:\MSJK
”.
•
Copy all the files from the “\
DiskPrep
” folder on the jump start CD to the “
C:\MSJK
” folder.
•
Attached the USB-to-CompactFlash (With the Compact Flash storage card inserted) adapter to
the development workstation.
•
Launch the
DiskPrep.exe
utility from the “
C:\MSJK
” folder.
•
Select “
FAT
” or “
FAT32
” file system format.
•
Make sure “
Place a BOOT.INI file on the disk
” option is selected.
•
Select the “
Load specific image file copied from
”, click the
Browse
button to bring up the
“
Select File to Execute on Boot
” screen.
•
From the “
Select File to Execute on Boot
” screen, navigate to the “
C:\MSJK
” directory and
select the “
NK.bin
” file, and click on the
Open
button.
•
From the DiskPrep utility program screen, click on the
OK
button to format and configured the
Compact Flash.
•
After the DiskPrep utility completed the task, copy the “
Boot.ini
” file from the “
C:\MSJK
”
directory to the Compact Flash storage’s root, overwritten the existing
Boot.ini
file.
•
Copy the “
Eboot.bin
” file from the “
C:\MSJK
” directory to the Compact Flash’s root directory.
