The system firmware displays the device name or device icon being tested. After
the keyboard name or icon appears, the user can enter the System Management
Services menu by pressing the 1 key (if ASCII terminal) or the F1 key (if graphics
terminal).

The user can also enter one of the following:
– 5 or F5 to start the standalone diagnostics (CD).
– 6 or F6 to start the online diagnostics (hard disk).
7. IPL Boot Code

The system firmware attempts to boot from the devices listed in the boot list.
v
LCD code range is E1XX.
8. Boot Image Execution
v
After a boot image is located on a device in the boot list, the system firmware
code passes control to AIX, indicated by either of the following AIX boot codes:
– LCD code E105 for normal boot
– LCD code E15B for service mode boot.
v
The AIX boot code displays LCD progress codes in the format 0xxx or 2xxx.
9. AIX Boot Complete
v
The AIX login prompt displays on the AIX console.
