5.18 Connecting Multiple SUDs to One SUC
This section explains how to connect multiple SUDs to one SUC through mini SAS cables.
Prerequisites
The following tools and materials have been ready:

Mini SAS cables

Context
For an N8500 with the S2600T storage system as the storage unit, connecting multiple SUDs to
one SUC by conforming to the following principles:
l
All EXP ports connect only to PRI ports.
l
Expansion ports on SUC's controller A connect only to expansion ports on SUD's disk
module A. Expansion ports on SUC's controller B connect only to expansion ports on SUD's
disk module B.
l
If two or more SUDs are required to connect to the SUC, set up two expansion loop, one
consisting of ports EXP 0 on SUC's controllers A and B and the other consisting of ports
EXP 1 on SUC's controllers A and B. The number of SUDs in each expansion loop should
be consistent.
l
In the expansion loops that contains more than one SUDs, the SUC's controllers A and B
connect to SUDs in opposite directions. The positive direction goes from the SUC's
controller A, port PRI on the first SUD's disk module A, port EXP on the first SUD's disk
module A, to port PRI of the adjacent SUD's disk module A, and so on. The negative
direction goes from the SUC's controller B, port PRI on the last SUD's disk module B, port
EXP on the last SUD's disk module B, to port PRI on the adjacent SUD's disk module B,
and so on.

The radius of mini SAS cables must be larger than 15 cm. Reserve a clearance larger than
97 mm for wiring.
To connect one SUD to one SUC, attach ports EXP 0 on the SUC's controllers A and B
respectively to ports PRI on the SUD's disk modules A and B. Then an expansion loop is
generated, as shown in
