For the FR4-18i blade, long distance settings are applicable only to the physical FC_Ports (ports 0-15). Long 

distance settings are not applicable to virtual FC_Ports (ports 16-31). 

Table 90

 lists the number of ports that 

can be configured at various distances.

Configuring an extended ISL

Before configuring an extended ISL, ensure that the following conditions are met.

•

Extended ISL support for 1Gb switches is limited as follows:
• To support extended ISLs, the

 

fabric.ops.mode.longDistance

 parameter must be set to 1 on 

all 1Gb switches switches in the fabric. Each switch must be disabled before setting this parameter.

• Extended ISLs are not supported between 1Gb switches and other Brocade models.

•

For fabrics that contain a mix of HP StorageWorks models, the 

fabric.ops.mode.longDistance

 

parameter must be set to 0 (the default). Under certain circumstances (for example, if you want 

extended distance between 3xxx switches) this mode must be enabled (set to 1) on switches running 

Fabric OS v3.x or v4.x. Talk to your switch provider for details. 

•

The ports on both ends of the ISL must have the same configuration.

•

Use only qualified SFPs. 

To configure an extended ISL

1.

Connect to the switch and log in as admin.

2.

If the fabric contains 1Gb switches with extended ISLs, use the 

switchDisable

 command to disable 

the switch and then use the 

configure

 command to set the fabric-wide configuration parameter

 

fabric.ops.mode.longDistance

 

to 1 on all switches in the fabric. 

3.

Enter the
