Check the gap between the center and side elec-
trodes with a wire-type feeler gauge.
If necessary, adjust the gap by bending the side
electrode carefully.
Install and hand tighten the spark plug to the cylin-
der head, then tighten the spark plug to the speci-
fied torque.
Connect the spark plug cap by aligning the hole of
the spark plug cap with the tab of the cylinder head
cover.
Install the maintenance lid (page 3-4).
VALVE CLEARANCE
INSPECTION
• Inspect and adjust the valve clearance while the
engine is cold (below 35
°
C/95
°
F).
• Check the engine idle speed (page 6-77) after the
valve clearance inspection.
Remove the following:
– maintenance lid (page 3-4)
– cylinder head cover (page 9-6)
– belt case air cleaner housing (page 4-16)
Remove the timing hole cap from the right crank-
case cover.
SPARK PLUG GAP: 0.8 – 0.9 mm (0.03 – 0.04 in)
TORQUE: 16 N·m (1.6 kgf·m, 12 lbf·ft)
0.8 – 0.9 mm
(0.03 – 0.04 in)
