ELECTRIC STARTER
Abnormal
TROUBLESHOOTING
Starter motor will not turn
• Check for a blown main fuse (10 A)
• Check that the battery is fully charged and in good condition.
• Faulty starter motor
• Faulty starter switch
• Faulty ignition switch
• Loose or poor connector contact
• Open circuit in wire harness
Clicks
Starter motor turns Starter motor
does not turn
Abnormal
With the ignition switch ON and the brake lever
squeezed (or pedal depressed), push the starter
switch and check for a “Click” sound from the starter
relay switch.
Cleck the starter relay voltage (page 17-7).
Normal
Check the starter relay switch operation (page 17-
7).
Normal
• Loose or poor ignition control module (ICM)
connector contact
• Faulty ICM
Connect the starter motor terminal directly to the
battery positive terminal. (Because a large amount
of current flows, do not use a thin wire.)
• Loose or disconnected starter motor wire
• Faulty starter relay switch
No clicks
• Faulty starter relay switch
Abnormal
Normal
Check the starter relay coil ground line and related
circuits (page 17-7).
• Loose or poor connector contact
• Open circuit in wire harness
• Faulty brake light switch
