CYLINDER/PISTON
“IN” MARK
PISTON PIN
Apply engine oil to the piston pin outer surface.
Install the piston with the “IN” mark toward the intake side
and insert the piston pin through the piston and
connecting rod.
Install new piston pin clips into the grooves of the piston
pin hole.
Place a shop towel over the crankcase opening to
prevent piston pin clips from falling into the crankcase.
CYLINDER INSTALLATION
Install the dowel pins and a new gasket.
Apply engine oil to the cylinder wall, piston and piston
ring outer surfaces.
Route the cam chain through the cylinder and install the
cylinder over the piston while compressing the piston
rings with your fingers.
Install the following:
— Cam chain guide.
— Cylinder head (page 7-16).
— Cam chain tensioner (page 7-17).
Be careful not to damage the piston rings and cylinder
wall.

GASKET
• Make sure that the piston pin clips are seated
securely.
• Do not align the piston pin clip end gap with the
piston cutout.
