(1) Program message headers
There are three types of header: simple headers, compound headers, and
particular headers.
Simple header
A header consisting of a single word beginning with a letter.
Examples
:HEADer
, etc.
Compound header
A header consisting of a sequence of words separated by colons.
Examples
:BEEPer:KEY, RANGe:AUTO
, etc.
Particular header
A header beginning with an asterisk (
*
) to indicate that it is a particular
command.
Examples
*
RST
, etc.
(2) Response message
Headers in response messages can be enabled or disabled by using the
"HEADer" command.
Example
When frequency is set to 1 kHz:
:FREQUENCY?
(Query message
asking for the current setting of the frequency.
)
Response message when headers are on.
:FREQUENCY 1000
