Use in the local area
Automatic search for the possible overseas pro-
vider is performed at default when the FOMA
terminal is turned on for the first time after you
reach the country. You do not need to worry
about the country you stay or the local area to
make use of communications services.
d
Display, Date and Time
During overseas, the name of the provider con-
nected will be displayed in the standby screen.
c
The display of the provider being used may be
set by “Operator name display” (p.445).
c
In order to display the local time in the standby
display, you can select the city in the “World
watch” (p.47) and “World watch ON” in the “Dis-
play type” of “Clock display” (p.147).
c
You find out overseas as well as in Japan that
the records of Redial, Dialed calls, Received
calls, Missed calls and i-mode mail on the sent
address list have the date and time set on “Set
time” of your FOMA terminal. However, regard-
less of this “Set time” setting, SMS on the sent
address list indicates the date and time when
you sent it in local time, while SMS on the
received address list indicates the date and time
when you received it in Japan time.
c
In the event the “Set time” is set to “Auto time set
ON” when used overseas, Japanese time will be
referenced and used (the data and time of the
country in which you are staying will not be refer-
enced).
d
Troubleshooting
c
“
” displayed on the screen
a
Set the “NW search mode” to “Auto”.
a
Since this FOMA terminal executes interna-
tional roaming, there may be times when
detection of radio waves that can be used is
time consuming immediately after turning the
power on. “
” may remain displayed on the
screen during this time.
c
The telephone number of the caller is not dis-
played.
a
Even when the caller makes a call allowing
notification of the caller’s telephone number, if
no caller number is notified by the provider
being used, the caller number will not be dis-
played at the FOMA terminal.
d
Setting after returning home
Upon returning to Japan, when the power to the
FOMA terminal is switched on, the network will
be searched automatically and the FOMA net-
work will be set. Please use the “NW search
mode” (p.444) to set to “Auto” if the current set-
ting for the provider is “Manual”.
Making a Call Abroad
The international roaming service enables you
to make voice or videophone calls from the
country or local area other than Japan using this
FOMA terminal.
c
Make sure that the remaining battery power and
the reception level are sufficient.
Making a call outside the visited
country (including Japan)
By registering the country name and country
code of recipients of frequent calls in “Int’l dial
settings”, the dialing operation will be facilitated.
