DRIVE BELT
For the alternator to function properly,
the drive belt should be in good condi-
tion and adjusted properly. Replace the
drive belt if it is worn, cracked, or
frayed.

CAUTION
If you leave the key in the ignition,
the engine could be started unexpect-
edly.
• Do not leave the key in the igni-
tion while checking the drive belt.
Moving parts of an operating engine
can cause serious injuries.
CHECKING DRIVE BELT
To check drive belt tension:
1. Apply moderate thumb pressure mid-
way between the longest unsupported
span of the drive belt. Your thumb
pressure should be about 20 lbs
(10kgf).
2. Deflection of the drive belt caused by
your thumb pressure should be about
0.5 inch (10 mm).
3. If the belt is too lose, ask your au-
thorized repairer to adjust it.
