PIM 

Multicast routers use Protocol Independent Multicast (PIM) to determine which other multicast 
routers should receive multicast packets. Protocol Independent Multicast-Dense Mode (PIM-
DM) is used when there is a large population of receivers in a network. PIM-DM builds routing 
and forwarding tables on-the-fly. PIM-DM uses unicast routing information to provide routing 
table information and adapt to topological changes.
