Brake Shoe Installation (Manually-Adjusted Brakes)

so the tips (1) of the shoes are positioned flush with the top surface of the shoe mounting blocks as shown

CAUTION
• Clean any residual oil from the exposed end of the axle shaft and from the oil seal area prior to
installing the axle shaft.

Install axle shaft (2) into axle tube and install retaining ring (1)
See following WARNING.
WARNING
• Be sure retaining ring is properly seated in groove. If ring is not properly installed, axle assembly will
separate from transaxle and damage axle assembly and other components. Loss of vehicle control
could result in severe personal injury or death.
7.
Install the brake drum and make sure that it is properly seated.
See following NOTE.
NOTE:
If drum installation is difficult, the brake shoes may need to be adjusted vertically in the mounting slots.
8.
After the drum is installed, make sure the axle and drum turn freely.
