T o check the ignition ti m ing, refer to illustration
and proceed as follows:
• Place ski tips against a wall, raise rear of vehicle
on a stand, so that track does not contact the
ground.

WARNING
Do n ot allow a n yo n e i n fro n t of or behi n d the
vehicle while e n gi n e is ru nn i n g. Keep clear
of track a n d do n ot wear loose clothi n g which
ca n get caught i n m ovi n g parts.
• Connect the ti m ing light pick-up to a spark plug
cable.
NOTE: T o avoid an incorrect reading due to paral-
lax, view the m agneto flywheel and the crankcase
ti m ing m arks in a straight line.
• Connect tacho m eter wire to spark plug wire or
ai m tacho m eter toward spark plug wire without
using any connection wire.
• Start the engine and raise the engine speed at
least to 3 5 00 RPM (3000 to 4000 RPM) while
observing the ti m ing m arks, refer to illustra-
tion. T he m agneto flywheel m ark scribed pre-
viously and the crankcase arrow should be per-
fectly aligned. If the
m arks do not align, a faulty
trigger coil (check proper grounding of coil), a
faulty flywheel, a faulty
W oodruff key, a m is-
aligned (twisted) crankshaft or a faulty CDI m od-
ule could be the cause: substitute one part at a
ti
m e and recheck ti m ing m arks (check connec-
tors condition prior to substituting any part).
NOTE: Ignition ti m ing m ay be verified when en-
gine speed is anywhere within 3000 - 4000 RPM.
• Install parts which were re m oved.
