SECTION 05 - ENGINE PREPARATION
Rear Radiator a n d Rear Radiator
Protector
Refer to FRAME for rear radiator re m oval/installa-
tion procedures.
For cleaning and inspection refer to FRON T RADI-
A T OR.
Radiator a n d Radiator Protector
Insert radiator protector n o. 7 into radiator C-rail
and cri m p C-rail at rear end. Refer to FRAME for
radiator n o. 6 re m oval.
Ther m ostat
For disasse m bly of ther m ostat n o. 5 , drain the
cooling syste m (see above).
Unscrew cla m p n o. 11 retaining hose n o. 12 to
the water outlet socket.
Re m ove:
– water outlet
– socket screws
– gasket ther
m ostat.
T o check ther m ostat, put in water and heat water.
T her m ostat should start to open when water te m -
perature reaches the following degree.

ENGINE TEMPERATURE
All 42°C (10 8 °F)
It will be al m ost fully open at 5 0°C (122°F).
T her m ostat is a double action type.
– Its function is to give faster war m up of the en-
gine by controlling a circuit; water pu m p — en-
gine — coolant tank. T his is done by bypassing
the radiator circuit.

m ostat opens progressively the circuit, water
pu m p — engine — radiators — coolant tank
to keep the liquid at the desired te m perature.
