After procedure is co m pleted, ensure engine idle
speed with engine hot is 1 8 00 - 2000 RPM.
Stop the engine.
S Y S TEM TE S TING
Ig n itio n S yste m Testi n g S eque n ce
In the case of ignition proble m s, check the follow-
ing in the prescribed order until the proble m can
be solved.
1) Sparking/spark plug condition.
2) Electrical connectors.
3) Ignition switch, DESS switch or tether cut-out
switch and engine cut-out switch.
4) Ignition generator coil.
5 ) T rigger coil.
6) MPEM voltage (liquid cooled m odels only).
7) High voltage coil (liquid cooled m odels only).
8 ) Buzzer testing.

1) Electrical connectors.
2) Magneto output (lighting generator coil).
Testi n g Co n ditio n s
Voltage m easure m ents are always taken upon
vehicle starting. Readings when the engine is
running will be higher than indicated range. Part
te
m perature m ust be approxi m ately 20 °C (6 8 °F)
(roo m te m perature), otherwise readings could be
distorted.
A n alysis of Readi n gs
• Voltage Readings
W hen testing the different m agneto co m ponents,
it is i m portant to take into consideration that read-
ings vary according to the force applied onto the
m anual starter. It is therefore i m portant to e m ploy
enough force upon each trial.
T he reading m ust be 3 ti m es within or above the
range indicated in the corresponding table. If the
reading is too low, the part is considered to be
defective and
m ust be replaced.
• Resistance Readings
Place m ulti m eter selector switch to in order to
m easure resistance. Readings m ust be within the
indicated range. Otherwise, the part is consid-
ered to be defective and
m ust be replaced.
CAUTION: Whe n taki n g m easure m e n ts, it is
useless to try to start the vehicle si n ce readi n gs
would the n be distorted.
• Inter m ittent Ignition Proble m s
It is difficult to m ake a diagnostic in the case of in-
ter m ittent ignition proble m s. T hus, proble m s oc-
curring only when the engine operating te m pera-
ture is nor m al m ust be checked in si m ilar condi-
tions.
In m ost cases when proble m s are caused by te m -
perature or vibrations, these can only be solved
by replacing parts. Most proble
m s cannot be de-
tected when the engine is stopped.
• Multiple Proble m s
As a m atter of fact, m ore that one co m ponent can
be defective. As a result, if the proble m re m ains
although a part was replaced, start over the whole
verification fro
m the beginning in order to identify
the other defective co m ponent.
1. S parki n g
During this operation, it is i m portant to use the
snow m obile spark plug and not a new one. Bring
the plug in contact with the engine. Pull rewind
starter. If no spark is produced, replace the spark
plug with a new one and do the test again.
2. Electrical Co nn ector Testi n g
Make sure that none of the connectors are discon-
nected.

Disconnect connector housings and check resis-
tance as indicated in IGNI
T ION table.
