Step 11:
Install single piece drive sprocket (remove any
paint from hub area) if equipped.

a. Position sprocket on shaft.
b. Install nut and torque to 350-400 lb-ft (375-542
N•m). Use spanner wrench.
c. Tighten set screws in criss-cross pattern and
torque to 40 lb-in (5.5 N•m).

Step 12:
Install ring and pinion (Do not disturb shims).
NOTE
Be sure to install O-rings on bearing caps and
use thread sealant on cap screws.
Step 13:
Install drain plug.
Step 14:
Install case access cover.
a. Apply surface sealant.
b. Install bolts with lock washers and tighten in
criss-cross pattern. Torque to 60-65 lb-ft (81-88
N•m).
Step 15:
Fill case with lubricant.
a. Fill to halfway up outside bearing cap (horizontal
screw holes).
b. Recheck level with dipstick after installing on
machine.
ADJUSTMENT
Check for end play in ring and pinion assembly.
Adjust if necessary.
a. Verify and record backlash. This should be
done at the ring gear, not at the pinion. A dial
indicator must be used. Normal backlash should
be 0.004 - 0.008" (0.10 - 0.20 mm).
