Step 9:
Disassemble output shaft subassembly.
a. Remove shims (1) and O-ring (2) from bearing
cap (3).
b. If necessary, pull bearing cup (4) from bearing
cap.
c. Remove bearing spacer (5) from shaft (6).
d. Remove bearing set (7) from shaft.
e. Remove O-ring (8) seal shield (9) from cap (10).
f. Pull seal (11) from cap.

INSPECTION
Step 1:
Inspect ring and pinion for wear.
a. If teeth are chipped or show excessive wear,
replace.
Step 2:
Inspect all gears for wear and damage.
Step 3:
Check all shafts for wear and damage.

ASSEMBLY
IMPORTANT
If bearings and cones are bad, they must be
replaced in sets.

CAUTION
Do not install pinion seal (8) until pre-load is
adjusted.

Step 1:
Assemble pinion subassembly to determine
preload.
a. If removed, press bearing cups (10 and 12) into
pinion housing (3).
b. Assemble bearing cone (7) onto shaft (6) and
install into housing.
c. Install spacer (11) and 0.015" shims (12) onto
shaft.
d. Install bearing cone (9) onto shaft.
e. Install yoke (4) and secure with nut and washer
(5). Torque nut to 70 lb-ft (95 N•m).
NOTE
To prevent damage, do not install
O-ring (2) until final case assembly.
