The functional test is intended for the final verification of the
electrical safety and is an obligatory part of the test standards to
be considered:
VDE 0701-0702
VDE 0751-1 (EN 62353)
VDE 0544-4 (EN 60974-4)
Non-electrical functions such as cutting, lifting or turning, etc. must
be checked at a lower level.
The functional test includes the following for all single-phase test
samples:
input voltage
input current
effective power
apparent power
Moreover, depending on the test standard and protection class,
the corresponding leakage current is measured.

The functional test of single-phase loads is carried out via the test
socket on the appliance tester and must not exceed a maximum
rated current of
16 A
.
The functional test of three-phase loads can be carried out using
the
BENNING MA 2-16
measuring adapter. The maximum rated
current is
16 A per phase
.
All devices and components of the test sample that protect against
the impacts of electricity must be tested for safe operation.
For the direct and differential current measuring
method, the test socket is supplied with mains voltage.
During direct current measurement, the test sample
must be placed onto an insulated surface to avoid
unintentional leakage currents via parallel earth or
protective conductor connections.
Before starting the functional test, switch off the test
sample at the device's own switch. Do not switch on the
test sample until the corresponding query appears on
the display of the ST 755/ ST 760.
The test sample must only be tested for proper
functioning after it has passed the safety test!
Supplementary notes and regulations from the
accompanying documents of the test sample
manufacturers must be observed.
Every function that is considered by the test personnel
to be safety-relevant must be tested for proper
operation.
For direct and differential current measurement, the
functional test must be carried out with both polarities.

Additional measuring and testing devices may be
required for complete functional testing of medical
electrical (ME) devices or systems, e. g. infusion pump
testers, defibrillator testers or patient simulators.
When testing medical electrical devices and systems, a
specialist should be consulted who is familiar with the
application of the test sample.
The functional test of three-phase loads can be carried
out using the BENNING MA 2-16 measuring adapter.
Input voltage, input current as well as effective and
apparent power can only be measured if the test socket
of the BENNING ST 755/ ST 760 is used.
