Upgrade to SQL 2000
Procedure
The following steps will upgrade an installation of MSDE 2000 to SQL Server 2000.
1.
Insert the SQL Server 2000 disk into your CD-ROM drive. If the compact
disk does not auto run, double click Autorun.exe in the root directory of the
compact disk.
2.
Select
SQL Server 2000 Components
, select
Install Database Server
and then at the
Welcome
screen, click
Next
.
3.
In the Computer Name screen, Local Computer is the default option and
the local computer name appears in the edit box. Click
Next
.
4.
In the Installation Selection screen, click
Upgrade, remove or add
components to an existing instance of SQL Server
, and then click
Next
.
5.
Enter the 25 digit CD-Key and click
Next
to continue.
6.
In the Instance Name box, default will be selected, click
Next
. (When
upgrading the existing installation of MSDE 2000 automatically becomes
the default instance of the SQL Server 2000).
7.
At the existing Installation screen, click
Upgrade your existing
installation
and then click
Next
.
8.
At the Upgrade screen, you are prompted as to whether you want to
proceed with the requested upgrade. Click
Yes, upgrade my SQL Server
Tools and Data
and then click
Next
.
9.
At the Connect to Server screen, select the
SQL Server System
administrator login information (SQL Server authentication).
Ensure
the Enter sa Password field is empty and then click
Next
.
10.
At the Start Copying Files screen, click
Next
.
11.
In the Choose Licensing Mode dialog box select
Processor License for
and enter
1
if installing on a PC with one processor otherwise enter
2
if
installing on a PC with 2 processors. Click Continue. The file installation
process begins.
12.
At the Setup Complete screen , click
Yes, I want to restart my computer
now
, and then click
Finish
.
13.
The SQL Server 2000 Components need to be installed now. Re-insert
your SQL Server 2000 disk into your CD-ROM drive. If the compact disk
does not auto run, double click Autorun.exe in the root directory of the
compact disk.
14.
Select
SQL Server 2000 Components
, select
Install Database Server
and then setup prepares the SQL Server Installation Wizard. At the
Welcome screen, click
Next
.
15.
At the Computer Name screen, Local Computer is the default option and
the local computer name appears in the edit box. Click
Next
.
16.
At the Existing Installation screen, click
Add components to your existing
installation
and then click
Next
.
17.
At the Select Components screen, select the required components. It is
recommended that in addition to Server Component being selected that
you have Management Tools and Client Connectivity options selected.
Click
Next
to continue.
18.
In Start Copying Files dialog box click
Next
and In the Setup Complete
screen click
Finish
.
