) to select the video output mode. This setting affects the
manner in which still and variable-speed video is played back from disk, but does
not affect playback at 1x normal play speed in either forward or reverse directions
(-1.00 or +1.00). Three settings are available:
Field, Frame f1-2
, and
Frame
f2-1
, which are explained below.

Field
Sets the output mode to Field, and causes the Attaché to
play a single field of video at the video output when the
disk is Stopped. Pressing or steps the disk one
field at a time, displaying each new field at the output.
Use the Field output mode when every field of video on
disk (or in a segment) is recorded with different picture
information, or if inter-field motion exists. This would
be the case if the video material originated from a video
camera, rather than from film or computer graphics
equipment.
If the vertical interpolator, which is disabled by
toggling the
(
Interpolator
) softkey, is OFF
while the output mode is set to Field, a single field of
video is repeated in order to create the second field of
the video frame.
If the vertical interpolator is ON when output mode is
set to Field, the single field is interpolated from an
average of four adjacent horizontal lines of video,
creating a new television field of information.
Interpolation will eliminate vertical hopping in the
picture when the disk is played at faster than normal
and slower then normal play speeds.

Frame f1-2
Sets the output mode to Frame with 1-2 field pairing,
and causes the Attaché to play a single frame of video
at the video output when the disk is Stopped. The two
fields that compose the frame are field-1 (f1) and field-
2 (f2) at the current disk position, with field-1
dominant. Pressing or steps the disk a single
frame at a time. The f1-f2 pairing is maintained
throughout all playback functions. Use the Frame
