To Create a VPN
Configuration using
L2TP
Layer Two Tunneling Protocol (L2TP), an extension to PPP (Point-to-Point
Protocol), merges the best features of PPTP and L2F (Layer 2 Forwarding).
Like PPTP, L2TP requires that the Service Provider’s routers support it.
To create a VPN tunnel using the L2TP protocol, perform the following
steps
1
Select
Create
from the
Edit Mode
drop-down menu.
2
Enter a name for the VPN Tunnel you want to create in the
VPN Name
field.
3
Select
L2TP
in the
VPN Protocol
drop-down menu.
4
Select the appropriate mode (
Initiator
or
Terminator
) in the
Tunnel Mode
drop-down menu. If you will be initiating the VPN Tunnel to a Remote
Workstation, select
Initiator
. If you will be terminating the VPN Tunnel
from a Remote Workstation, select
Terminator
. If you select
Terminator
the VPN Configuration page will dynamically change to reflect this
selection.
Terminator Tunnel Mode
If you selected
Terminator
for your Tunnel Mode, perform the following
steps:
1
Enter the password for the VPN Tunnel in the
Session Password
field. The
Initiator of the VPN Tunnel will provide you with this password.
2
Select your IP Pool from the
IP Pool(s)
drop-down menu. This pool
contains the pool of IP Addresses that will be used by the OfficeConnect
Gateway to respond to requests for an IP Address from the remote server.
You must have an IP Pool configured for your VPN. If not, the system will
prompt you to create one and will provide a link to the
IP Pools
Configuration
page.)
3
Select a workstation from the list of workstations displayed in the
Workstations
list. To select all workstations, click the
All Workstations
checkbox to enable it. This list identifies the workstations on the same
subnet of your OfficeConnect Gateway.
4
Select an encapsulation method from the
Encapsulation
drop-down
menu. None is the default selection. If you select
None
, click
Apply
and then click
SaveAll
on the OfficeConnect Gateway menu bar to
permanently save your VPN tunnel configuration information.
