SECTION 5 SAWMILL ALIGNMENT
Two alignment procedures are available to realign the sawmill if necessary. The Routine Align-
ment instructions should be performed as necessary to solve sawing problems not related to
blade performance. The Complete Alignment procedure should be performed approximately
every 1500 hours of operation (sooner if you regularly transport the sawmill over rough terrain).

Routine Alignment Procedure
Level the frame and adjust the saw head as described in Section 3.
Blade Installation
1.
Remove the blade and check the blade wheel belts. Remove any sawdust buildup from the sur-
face of the belts. Replace worn belts if they do not keep the blade from contacting the blade
wheel.
2.
Install a clean blade and apply the appropriate tension (
).
3.
Adjust the idle-side cant control to track the blade (
4.
Close the blade housing cover and make sure all persons are clear of the saw head.
5.
Start the engine.
6.
Engage the blade, rotating the blade until the blade positions itself on the wheels.
WARNING!
Do not spin the blade wheels by hand. Spinning the blade wheels
by hand may result in serious injury.
7.
Disengage the blade. Turn the engine off.
Saw Head Tilt
As the blade enters a wide log or cant, the outside of the saw head will drop down slightly. To
compensate for the drop, the saw head is adjusted 1/16" (1.5 mm) higher at the outside.
1.
Move the saw carriage so the blade is positioned over a bed rail. Adjust the blade guide arm to
1/2" (15 mm) from full open.
2.
Raise the saw head so the bottom of the blade measures 14 3/4" (375 mm) from the top surface
of the bed rail near the inner blade guide assembly.
3.
Measure from the blade to the bed rail near the outer blade guide assembly. This measurement
should be 1/16" (1.5 mm) higher than the inner measurement or 14 13/16" (376.5 mm).
See Figure 5-1.
Turn the saw head tilt adjustment nut clockwise to raise the outside of the saw-
head. Turn the nut counterclockwise to lower the outside of the saw head. After the saw head is
