2-7 PERIODIC MAINTENANCE

INSPECTION AND ADJUSTMENT

The valve clearance specification is same for both valves. The
valve clearance adjustment must be checked and adjusted, 1) at
the time of periodic inspection, 2) when the valve mechanism is
serviced, and 3) when the camshaft is removed for servicing.

NOTE:
* The piston must be at TDC on the compression stroke in order

to check the valve clearance or to adjust the valve clearance.

* The valve clearance specification is for COLD state.
* To turn the generator rotor for clearance checking, rotate in the

normal running direction. The spark plug should be removed.

• Rotate the generator until the line

A

on the crankshaft is at

the center of the hole in the generator cover.

• Align the mark

B

on the camshaft sprocket with the concave

line

C

of the cylinder head.
