3. Hardware Installation
3.1 On ‐ site preparations for the installation of the Valve Control Unit (VCU)

A “Schuko” socket is needed for the power supply.
Disconnect the green ‐ yellow earth conductor from the socket.
Grounding will be facilitated via the VCU.
 Plug the supplied surge protector in the socket.

Mount the Valve Control Unit (VCU) to its location on the wall.
Connect the available decoder cable to terminal 34/35.
If you need to run multiple decoder cables (up to 3 units) use terminals 36/37 and 38/39
next. (See also User Manual Page chapter10, Wiring schematic)
Connect the external interfaces such as Rain gauge Type Mini Click
to their corresponding terminals.
IMPORTANT: Please check the VCU version on the inside
and outside label on the door!!
If it does not show Greenkeeper Win, follow
the instructions for a chipset update.
Without the new chipset the VCU is not compatible
with Greenkeeper Win.

Grounding with an earth conductor to BA 10119.
An earth conductor at least 20 m long shall be buried in a ditch at least 70 cm deep, in
accordance with BA 10119. The earth resistance should be less than 10 Ohm.
In poor conductivity areas (gravel or sand) 2 x 20 m earth conductors should be used.
Mount a potential equalizing bar on a wall inside the building.
Connect the earth conductor to the equalizing bar.
The potential equalizing bar is connected to the VCU with a (green ‐ yellow) earth cable 1 x 16
mm². The earth cable connects the earth bar of the VCU to the potential equalizing bar.
Order number for the grounding equipment: SB50001.

On the right ‐ hand side of the VCU you will find 2 “Schuko” sockets.
Plug the cord of your computer into one of the sockets.
Should your monitor use a separate “Schuko” plug use the second socket for this. For the
modem you can use any socket that you choose.

Now plug the VCU mains cord in the mains surge suppression unit connected to the mains
outlet.
Connect the VCU to the COM 1 serial port of your computer.
Should there be two identical sockets on your computer, use the one marked Port 1, COM 1,
Ser. 1 , A or similar.

Now switch on the power supply.
The VCU will acknowledge this by emitting a tone signal.
The green LED on the VCU is lit up continuously .
The yellow LED flashes (with long intervals between the flashes).
Should the yellow LED not flash, there is no software downloaded in the VCU.
