Selecting the Focus Method – Coolscan only

Macintosh: The Nikon Scanner plug-in provides two types of focus operations.

These are called Visual Focus and Metered Focus. Both are described in Chapter
Fourteen. The plug-in automatically defaults to the Metered Focus technique. This
can be changed by checking the

check box, seen in Figure 7.26. If

checked, the Visual Focus technique will be employed. If you change the state of the
box, you must exit the Tools dialog. It is not necessary to restart the application soft-
ware.

Windows: The Nikon Scanner plug-in provides two types of focus operations.

These are called Visual Focus and Metered Focus. Both are described in Chapter
Fourteen. The plug-in automatically defaults to the Metered Focus technique. This
can be changed by holding down the Control key while clicking on the

Interface Buttons

This toggling pair of buttons, which specifies SCSI or GPIB interface, is available

in the Main Scan dialog and in the Tools dialog. While opening the plug-in, the soft-
ware will search the GPIB and then the SCSI bus for any scanners. When found, the
device will have its ID displayed in the upper right-hand corner. If no device is found,
and one is known to be connected, then the toolkit buttons provide a means to search
the bus again for a particular address. If you have more than one Nikon scanner con-
nected to your SCSI or GPIB chain, you will have to manually set the SCSI or GPIB
address you wish to use. Do so by clicking the appropriate button, SCSI or GPIB, in
the Tools dialog and set the appropriate address using the relevant pop-up menu, as seen
in Figures 7.29a and 7.30a for Macintosh, and Figures 7.29b and 7.30b for Windows.
