dots/inch would create a 364.5 kilobyte file. A 4" x 5" scan at an output resolution of
288 dots/inch would create a 5.7 megabyte file.
As a starting point for high-quality print reproduction, set the output scan resolu-
tion, or final res, to be about twice the printing line screen resolution. For example, if
you know you will be printing an image at 150 lines per inch, your input scan resolu-
tion would be approximately 300 pixels or dots per inch.
In this case, let’s set the final resolution to 72 pixels/inch. Note that the crop
rectangle does not change.

As mentioned, changing the final resolution automatically changes the pitch of the
scanner stage mechanism (scanner resolution). The pitch is automatically set by chang-
ing the output resolution. Therefore, all you really need to know is what output resolu-
tion, or

The new values for these fields follow. We won’t modify the pitch at this time.

Lock the file size
Since you have entered the width, height and output resolution, let’s make sure
that these parameters cannot be changed when you reposition the crop rectangle in Step
Seven.
There are two ways to lock the scan dimensions. For now, lock the file size by
