Figure 5.1 The Nikon Scanner plug-in’s Main Scan dialog for monitors with resolu-
tions of 640 x 480 pixels (Coolscan connected).
For Nikon scanners with a SCSI interface, the Nikon Scanner plug-in and the
Nikon Control software assume that the scanner is configured for SCSI ID #5. This is
the factory default condition. If this is not the case, consult the Installation Guide
accompanying your scanner for proper configuration instructions.
Most scanning operations can be performed from this dialog box, including
selecting the film type, previewing the image, fine focusing, cropping the image, and
performing basic brightness, contrast and color balance tasks.
If the message box in the upper left-hand corner contains

(for Coolscan users), or

(for LS-3510AF users),
you are ready to perform a preview scan or a final scan. Please note that engineering
changes may mean that your ROM version, which was the shipping version at the time
of this printing, will not be the same. If no scanner type is indicated, the message

will appear. In this case, the scanner may not have been in a
ready state (indicated by a steady green LED on the front panel) when you started the
Nikon Scanner plug-in software. You can establish a connection to the scanner by
clicking on the relevant search icon, SCSI or GPIB, which is located at the top of the
Main Scan dialog. You will need to check your installation, particularly the SCSI or
GPIB cabling to confirm proper connections and termination if this attempt fails. For
scanner installations with other SCSI or GPIB external devices, place the scanner in the
SCSI or GPIB chain, remembering to maintain proper termination. If you are unsure
of which SCSI or GPIB address to use, consult the Installation Guide included with
your scanner.
